Creative Critical Reflection 1

My product challenges conventions because it shows some emotions that could arise if teens came across the same situation. Teen pregnancy is a apparent issue and my film shows that teens are not ready for that responsibility. It shows teens make rash decisions. As my film continues, texting and driving is shown which is also a huge problem in today's world. At the end of my film, unfortunate situations appear as a result pf texting and driven. This challenges conventions because it shows texting and driving needs to be handled. The film's lack of dialogue throughout the it really challenges conventions creating a silent film and no syncronized sound except for the occassional sound effects and incidental music. This allows the audience to focus all their attention on the emotion and body language of the experiences the teens are going thorugh. The girl worries about her pregnancy and the boy outrages as he hears the news. The film also utilizes conventions by using long takes. With these long takes my partner and I were able to film the long drawn out emotions and actions that would realistically take place in this situation such as the crying as the girl reads her pregnancy test or the boy leaning his head on his hand taking it all in. The social group we decided to represent were teens and their emotional states that can create chaos. To show this I filmed teen pregnancy to show teens are very enveloped in emotion and sometimes are in over their heads. I filmed texting and driving to show that again, emotion can have a powerful effect on people and especially a teen, making them distracted and not focused on what is right in front of them.
