Chasing Mavericks is a movie all about a kid who loves surfing and waves. Jay, the main character, gets caught in a wave and goes down into the water. At first there is a close up shot of him counting the waves and each set. But then he goes down to the water and there are jump cuts of him and the water crashing on him to create suspense. Then there is a low angle of a hand reaching down and grabbing Jay puling him lout of the water and onto his surfboard. All of this creates the mood and object of the movie: Surfing. There is also short takes between Jay and the water to give the audience fear that Jay might nit make it. Later, there is a shot/reverse shot of Jay and the man who saved him talking about waves and how Jay needs to be more careful. This creates a sense of bondage between the two characters. There dialogue is also very important because they talk about waves and it is clearly shown they both share that bond of loving the water. The props such as the surfboards also show that the movie will be about surfing. The movie had a budget of 20 million and only made 8.3 million. The movie was also not nominated for an awards nor did it win any.
